With Special guests:
Thomas ‘Spats’ Langham was born in 1971 and spent his childhood in Buxton. He started Ukulele as soon as his fingers were big enough, inspired by his Grandfather, and turned to Banjo at the age of 10. At 14 he was appearing with the Hot Spa Stompers, and soon after with Ged Hones Dixie Boys. It was Ged who encouraged Spats to start guitar. He moved to the Cotswolds in 1992 to join the Charleston Chasers (where he first met and worked with Malcolm Sked). Since then he has worked as a professional musician, travelled the four corners of the globe, and has been lucky to play with many great artists and bands.
More on Spats can be found here: http://www.hotfingers.
Trevor Whiting – Clarinet and Saxophone. Trevor Whiting has been an established figure on the UK jazz scene for over 30 years. His appearances with the Chris Barber band and numerous other jazz orchestras and bands across Europe are the stuff of legend. With a beautiful tone, great harmonic language and a lyrical way with melodies, this excellent musician is much in demand. His early days saw him playing with the cream of British Trad jazz and during the 1980s he could be heard performing with great American legends like Ken Colyer, Scott Hamilton and Art Hodes.
Monday 5th February – The Conservative Club, Radway Place, Sidmouth, 3pm to 5.30pm. Admission £17.50 at the door, preferably by cash or cheque payable to P ALLEN.
Sunday 11th February at 7pm – Regal Theatre, Minehead,Somerset. Box Office Tel:01643 706430 with special guests Trevor Whiting and Dave Moorwood
Dave has been playing guitar and banjo with a wide variety of bands and groups since his schooldays (the mid 1950s) but since 2004, on finishing a busy eight year stint with the Pete Allen Jazz Band,
he has been concentrating on his own projects; the Rascals of Rhythm and the Big Bear Stompers. Over the years he has also been periodically found in bands such as those led by Terry Lightfoot, Max Collie, Phil Mason & John Petters, and still helps out in those of Pete Allen, Briant White and Matt Palmer to name but a few.
Please don’t forget you can purchase my CD’s and my autobiography, “On the Beat” at all the gigs or email Jane (from Newbury) for copies: nana.macgregor@
