Eddie Harvey Recording Project

Chris co-composed Boswell’s London Journal with Eddie Harvey and Eddie arranged all the tunes. Eddie also contributed a number arrangements  and original tunes,  arranged  for the Trio. The project is to record all these onto one album and add Diane McLoughlin as a soloist on the trio arrangements.

Eddie Harvey

The pianist and trombone player, arranger and composer was born in 1925.  After studying the piano classically he took up the trombone and became a prime mover in the post war jazz revival.  He became interested in modern jazz in the late 40s when he first played with John Dankworth, Ronnie Scott and other like-minded young musicians.  In addition to working with Dankworth he also played with the American bands of Woody Herman and Maynard Ferguson and was, for many years, pianist with Humphrey Lyttelton’s band.  Eddie was also been involved in education as a tutor at various establishments and for almost 20 years was head of jazz studies at the London College of Music, where he also directed the London College Big Band.  In recent years he  wrote music for many singers, including Cleo Laine with the Duke Ellington Orchestra; Christmas music for the St George’s Chapel Choir and Orchestra, and compositions for the Dankworth Generation Band.  He also undertook a commission for Kew Wind Band, a large classical ensemble and Ealing Jazz Festival with the Ealing Comedy Suite written for the Sound  Of Seventeen

In 2005 Eddie was presented with a Services to Jazz Education award by the Parliamentary Jazz Society.
