SUMMONED BY BELLS â A new project for 2024
This project is based around Sir John Betjemanâs poem âSummoned By Bellsâ and involves a tour of churches with bell towers. The core of the programme revolves around a number of newly composed themes played by church bells over which members of the band will improvise â two trumpets and soprano sax
In addition to the improvisation with bells there will be music from folk songs to jazz and a few other idioms in between. Plus, poetry readings written by Betjeman, A.E.Houseman plus two new commissions from the poet Max Hillman, set to music by Estelle Kokot.
The band comprises myself plus Henry Lowther (trumpet), Diane McLoughlin (sax), Elaine Delmar (vocal) Alison Rayner (double bass) and Max Brittain (guitar). >>READ MORE HERE<<

JAZZ AND DR JOHNSON
Jazz and Dr Jonson is based around Chrisâ album âBoswellâs London Journalâ, a suite of 15 tunes co-composed by Chris Hodgkins and Eddie Harvey (who also did the arrangements). James Boswell, best known as the biographer of Dr Samuel Johnson, kept a daily diary between the years 1762 and 1763.
The album has been turned into a show Jazz and Dr Johnson with a script written by the late   Sue Sheridan. The evening consists of movements from the jazz suite interspersed with readings from the script with tailored various anecdotes and quotes from James Boswellâs journal that chronicled Johnsonâs life. >>READ MORE HERE<<
